Literature Text

She puts one bony finger on the one way glass as they walked by.
They were so beautiful, so radiant, so majestic as they walked in their small pack.
They gleamed shiny colors of warm melted gold and starlight silver,
All melted together, in one large pot of perfection.
A small tear leaked out of the corner of her eye.
The beauty nearly blinded her.
The way they seemed to be walking on air,
Each string of hair, blowing as an ensemble in the wind,
They didn't need to speak to be heard.

She counted the amount of times they looked in her direction.
One, she whispered hoarsly. Two, three, four.
Four.
Four times in her direction.
Her glee overwelmed her.

Four times.
Four times they looked but never truly saw.
Four times, they looked at her one way glass, just to admire themselves standing next to her.

Four times, all they saw,
Was a glass cage of flesh.
This piece has very many metaphorical elements to it.
The one way mirrored glass box that she is trapped herself into, is like saying that she is invisible. People look at her, just so they may admire themselves, so they can see how great they look next to her.
She's desperate, she sees all these beautiful people around her, breathing the same air as her, and she wishes is they would notice a true person, and not be distracted by their reflection, or think of her as just a glass cage of flesh.
When my friend read this she asked me if it was about an anorexic ballerina. I was overjoyed to hear this mostly because I enjoy when my poetry is out for interpretation, I definitely did not see that when I was writing it, but who knows? That's what you might have thought too!
Please comment to tell me how you interpreted it :)

This is amazing! I was hooked from the start! I've also noticed that most of your pieces have a dark twist to it and I love that about your poetry! Good job! Keep up the good work!
